The Position
Weights and Measures Inspectors inspect all commercial weighing and measuring devices, enforce applicable regulations, and sample gasoline and diesel fuel for quality in order to protect the economic interests of consumers and merchants in the State.
Under general supervision, incumbents, in addition to performing the full range of duties outlined in the series concept, supervise lower level Weights and Measures Inspectors in a designated geographic area to include performance evaluations, work performance standards, scheduling, assigning and reviewing work, training and discipline.
This position is assigned to the Division of Measurement Standards office located in Las Vegas, Nevada, and serves as a supervisor for the Southern Nevada-based Weights and Measures Inspector team. Supervisory duties include but are not limited to, scheduling, assigning and reviewing work for work units and individual employees, training employees, preparing employee work performance standards and reports on employee performance, and employee discipline. The incumbent in this position is responsible for management of vehicles, equipment and materials assigned to the work units they supervise, including coordination of vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair services. This position participates in the development and implementation of the division's procedures; this position is responsible to interpret and apply regulations administered by the division. Incumbent is required to operate a diesel truck and trailer. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in science, mathematics, statistics, physics, engineering, agriculture, or a closely related field and two years of experience in the inspection, maintenance or installation of mechanical or electrical equipment which included weighing and/or measuring devices and applying weights and measures regulations; OR Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in science, mathematics, statistics, physics, engineering, agriculture, or a closely related field and three years of experience as described above; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and four years of applicable work experience, two years of which were as described above; OR one year of experience as a Weights and Measures Inspector II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Notes
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    Positions in this series must be able to obtain and maintain applicable professional certifications issued by the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the National Conference on Weights and Measures (NCWM) as a condition for continuing employment.
    Some positions in this series must operate a diesel truck and trailer. Incumbents in those positions must obtain a Nevada Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within one year of appointment and maintain a current CDL for continuing employment

    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, positions in this series have been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in these positions must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
The Examination
Application Evaluation Exam
The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.

1) Do you have experience supervising employees who determine the correct operation of weighing and measuring devices?
2) Can you describe your experience with interpreting existing regulations and procedures, as well as developing and implementing new or amended procedures, particularly in the field of weights and measures?
3) Can you describe your experience with developing work unit schedules for multiple work units, including those stationed at different duty stations from your own?
4) Describe your experience in training employees on the use of technical test equipment, processes, and methods necessary for the proper inspection of weighing and measuring devices?
5) List the certifications you currently have that are related to this position.
6) Do you a CDL or will you be able to obtain a CDL within one year of appointment?
