The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

JOB INFORMATION
Work Type: Permanent, full time vacancies as they may occur
in this geographical location.
Economists prepare and conduct research, analysis and studies of economic, social, fiscal and other factors in relation to topic of study.
The Nevada Department of Corrections (NDOC) is recruiting to underfill an Economist 3 position in Carson City. The incumbent will create and maintain databases to collect, analyze, and interpret data for forecasting inmate and expenditure needs for NDOC and other state agencies. This includes generating population projections and policy simulations for budget preparation and legislative activities and performing legal and correctional analysis on prison admissions and releases. The incumbent will be responsible for analyzing 10-year projections, preparing prison plan reports, and composing budgeted population projections; tracking and analyzing newly introduced legislation, preparing fiscal notes, and identifying the impacts of proposed laws and policies; providing technical assistance to public officials and law enforcement agencies; preparing statistical summaries; and conducting biennial surveys. The work schedule is typically Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm, with potential for extended hours in emergencies.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in economics, labor economics, econometrics, statistics or a related field and two years of professional experience in conducting statistical/economic data collection, analysis and research involving the application of advanced statistical, mathematical and economic principles and research modeling; OR one year of experience as an Economist I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
