The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

Mental Health Counselors provide counseling, case management, direct clinical services, community and home based services, and behavioral and human services to mentally ill, developmentally disabled and/or emotionally disturbed clients in an outpatient, residential, community or similar setting.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.
The Nevada Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) is seeking a Mental Health Counselor 1 underfilling a Mental Health Counselor 2 (MHC) located at the Nevada Youth Training Center, a 60-bed staff secure facility for male youth ages 12 to 18 located in Elko, NV.
The MHC provides counseling, case management, direct clinical services, and behavioral and human services to youth. Incumbents review youth charts, complete assessments, prepare treatment plans, discuss youth treatment at case staffing, make case presentations, conduct individual and standardized assessments, integrate and analyze information from all available sources; document quality of care and ensure information is available to other members of the treatment team by completing required forms; report and maintain documentation to ensure compliance with established laws, regulations, policies and standards of care.
This is a full-time position with an anticipated work schedule of 11:00am-7:00pm, Sunday-Thursday or Tuesday-Saturday that includes a variable work agreement with overtime after 40 hours per week.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Master's degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, marriage and family therapy, psychology, social work or closely related academic field; OR an equivalent combination of education and clinical experience at or above a master's degree and experience as described above. |

Some positions require specialized training and experience working with specific client populations |

Working evenings, weekends, and/or holidays is required. |

A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. |

This position requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment. |
