The Position
Instruct students in a discipline or field by providing both classroom instruction and hands-on training (on the job training) to teach vocational skills, work ethics and appropriate safety for the skill; evaluate student's progress through written and oral assignments and practical work evaluation to assess progress towards educational goals; evaluate students on quality of work, initiative, attitude, ability to follow instructions and peer relations to assess progress toward attitudinal goals.
The Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) is seeking Vocational Education Instructors (Instructors) to work at Independence High School located on the campus of the Nevada Youth Training Center (NYTC) in Elko, Nevada. NYTC is a 64-bed staff secure facility for male and female youth aged 12 to 18. Under the general direction of the Principal, Instructors assess student goals, and instruct in areas in which they are certified. NYTC Instructors use a variety of approved methods of instruction to ensure a well-rounded learning experience in accordance with the state course of studies being assigned, to qualify students for a Nevada High School diploma. Curriculum includes remedial instruction and the teaching of higher order thinking skills using materials, methods and activities that contribute to the student's goals. Instructors have student assignments and appropriate materials organized to teach all classes assigned. Lesson plans and student assignments will be maintained and provided for individual work at least one week in advance. Quantity of work is based on the student's individual goals and needs. Instructors will report and document if a student is not achieving at a satisfactory rate, and continue ongoing evaluation of students who are two or more weeks behind in assignments or failing to work satisfactorily.     Possession of a Special Occupational Business and Industry license issued by the Nevada Department of Education.
