Classes in this series serve as line department personnel function officers. Incumbents in this series plan, organize and administer a comprehensive personnel services program including employee relations, selection, classification coordination, position control, evaluation, training, payroll and other related areas. Personnel Officers supervise the work of other personnel staff.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.The Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation invites dynamic and motivated individuals to apply for the role of Personnel Officer 1 within our human resources team. This exciting opportunity is available in either Las Vegas or Carson City, determined by the preference of the successful candidate. DETR HR provides comprehensive HR services to five separate agencies and over 900 employees.
The successful applicant will play a crucial role in leading and supervising the HR team on a daily basis. Responsibilities encompass managing daily operations, which includes assigning personnel action processing tasks; overseeing the recruitment and hiring processes for the agencies we support; offering guidance to staff on state regulations, policies, and HR best practices; and stepping in to support the Personnel Officer 3 when needed. Moreover, the Personnel Officer 1 will engage in consultations with directors, administrators, managers, supervisors, and legal counsel on a range of employee relations issues, such as performance evaluations, attendance, leave policies, and grievances. This role involves conducting and managing internal investigations into employee actions, preparing statistical reports, formulating policies, and assisting agencies with employee compensation requests. Graduation from an accredited four year college or university in personnel management, business administration, public administration or related area and three years of progressively responsible professional personnel management experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
