The Position
Public Service Interns receive training and complete a variety of assignments in staff activities directly relating to their major course of study while enrolled in an educational institution.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.
The Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) is recruiting for a part-time Public Service Intern 2 (PSI2) in Reno, Nevada. The PSI2 is a paid student intern/practicum position, within the Infant & Early Childhood Mental Health and EC Day Treatment Programs at Northern Nevada Child and Adolescent Services; an approved fieldwork/practicum site. The Early Childhood Mental Health Program provides extensive training and direct experience in infant and early childhood mental health assessment, diagnosis, and dyadic parent-child mental health intervention services with children birth to eight years old and their primary caregivers. PSI's participate in regularly scheduled individual/group clinical reflective supervision, attend self-directed and live in-person trainings, engage in shadowing DCFS mental health professionals as they provide in-person mental health services, and then provide mental health services to children/caregivers with live supervision by DCFS licensed mental health professionals. The primary population served are children and their families birth to 8 years old. Business hours are 8-5 pm, Monday through Friday, but may also include later hours to accommodate families. The Public Service Intern position is part-time (minimum 20 hrs. 24 min/week) and scheduled hours will be determined between the PSI and program supervisors. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree related to the field of employment and enrollment and continued successful performance in an academic graduate program related to the field of employment at an accredited college or university.
Special Notes
    Employment is not to exceed six months from the date of graduation.
    Employment in this class will not lead to permanent status in State service.
    As part of the hiring process, applicants for positions in the Nevada System of Higher Education may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform job-related tasks.
Special Requirements
    A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
