The Position
Maintenance Repair Specialists perform a variety of skilled work in two or more of the mechanical and construction trades in order to repair, construct, and/or maintain buildings, grounds and equipment.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
The Nevada Department of Veterans Services, Southern Nevada State Veterans Home (SNSVH) is recruiting for Maintenance Repair Specialist 1, located in Boulder City, NV. Under the direction of the Facilities Supervisor, the Maintenance Repair Specialist 1 performs a range of general building and equipment maintenance at SNSVH. Duties include but are not limited to: installing, maintaining, and repairing a variety of equipment at SNSVH that includes refrigerated commercial kitchen, central heating boiler, chiller, rooftop and electrical systems, plumbing, bio-medical equipment, and other equipment in all areas and grounds of the facility; and ensuring all equipment is in a safe operating condition and conforms to codes and regulations. Other duties include performing skilled carpentry work to construct, maintain, repair, and modify facilities, fixtures, furniture and woodwork; skilled painting work including preparing surfaces and applying paint with brushes and airless spray equipment; applying wall coverings; staining and varnishing furniture to maintain the condition and appearance of structures, furniture and fixtures; skilled work to maintain, and repair door hardware, and other duties as assigned. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Four years of progressively responsible experience under the supervision of journey level trades persons in two or more of the major building or mechanical trades which included responsibility for performing a variety of repair and maintenance activities, laying out jobs and ordering materials; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Notes
    This position is subject to standby and call back status.
    Incumbents may be required to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays in addition to their normal work schedules.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    A valid driver's license is required at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    This position may require flexible/rotating shifts.
    This position may require work on nights/weekends/holidays.
