Transportation Planner/Analysts participate in transportation system analysis, a continuing comprehensive and cooperative planning process, research programs or projects, safety programs and/or related functional areas as mandated by, and within the guidelines of, federal, State and local authorities; monitor, develop and implement State and federal funding and programming/planning requirements and ensure compliance with federal funding requirements.

Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.

This position is within the Traffic Information Section, Carson City. Incumbent is responsible for acting in a lead capacity to the Traffic Data Analyst I & Electronic Technician III and all subordinate personnel, train, provide guidance, prioritize, and delegate work assignments and make recommendations on work performance throughout the year. Review data collection methods and procedures and make changes to the field manual as necessary Annually access elements of the TMS that pertain to the Field Operations section and update as necessary. Assess the data collection needs for special traffic studies and facilitate the scheduling of them through the use of subordinate personnel. Ensure data is collected accurately and submitted in a timely manner according to each specific request. Monitor tasks and accomplishments based on monthly reports from staff and notify the other section heads of the status of work programs on a monthly basis. On a continuous basis, assist other section heads with developing and adjusting sample plans and provide changes as they occur. Track the departments operating and travel budget to insure we stay within the approved State Fiscal Year's budget. NOTE: THIS RECRUITMENT MAY BE USED TO UNDERFILL A TRANSPORTATION PLANNER ANALYST 2.
