Information Technology (IT) Professionals analyze, develop, implement, maintain, and modify computer operations, systems, networks, databases, applications, and/or information security. Incumbents may perform duties in one or more IT specialization areas depending on the needs of the agency.
Incumbents perform journey level duties and may serve as a lead worker to lower level IT staff as assigned. This is a supervisory level for the Computer Operations function.
This position will provide data science-related IT support related to Division of Welfare and Supportive Services (DWSS) and other Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) data systems for the DHHS Office of Analytics. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, maintaining, and monitoring advanced analytic, computational, and predictive modeling tools for DHHS social service programs, following a traditional data science lifecycle. The data science lifecycle includes gathering and storing data; processing and converting raw data into clean, organized information; developing tools and processes for analysis; applying techniques to produce findings from structured and unstructured data; and communicating the data; and the results of this process across various organizations. The position will work with analysts, end users, and developers to collect data through analyzing business results or developing, initiating, and managing new information studies, changing data into new formats to make it more conducive for analysis, assisting with Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) processes, developing new, experimental frameworks for data collection, querying data, and developing tools to perform automated data collection, extraction, analysis, and visualization.
This position will also use technical skills and knowledge to assist with building reports and dashboards related to DWSS and DHHS data. Additionally, the position will be responsible for helping integrate new data sources, test analytical model enhancements, and fine-tune model parameters to improve upon existing methodologies; take active part in the design and development of automated forecasting models; ensure models are well developed, tested, trained, and implemented; help with all aspects of data management for constructing analytic systems. This position maintains data quality and control, and completes all requests related to data from internal and external partners within specified timeframes in a fast-paced working environment under minimal supervision. Assignments will include gathering data from multiple sources, data processing, exploratory data analysis, anomaly detection, measurement, unstructured data analysis, interpretation of findings, predictive & prescriptive modeling, presentation, and system automation.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, management information systems, or closely related field and two years of professional IT experience relevant to the duties of the position which may include computer operations, systems administration, network administration, database administration, applications analysis and development, and/or information security; OR two years of experience as an IT Professional I in Nevada State service; OR four years of relevant technical experience as an IT Technician IV or above in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. |
