The Position
Security Officers provide security for State buildings and occupants, enforce laws and apprehend offenders.
PER EXECUTIVE ORDER 2023-11, ALL MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS HAVE BEEN WAIVED FOR THIS POSITION UNTIL JUNE 30TH, 2024. Please refer to the link for more information: https://gov.nv.gov/Newsroom/ExecOrders/Executive-Orders/ Under general supervision, incumbents perform the full range of duties described in the series concept. This is the journey level in the series.
The museum is an agency of the Division of Museums and History, Nevada Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs. Work is performed at the Nevada State Museum and off-site facilities in Carson City and northern Douglas County. The position provides security for on-site and off-site facilities, collections, property, personnel, and public during business hours, events and after hours; Conducts interior and exterior patrols of buildings and grounds; Monitors and maintains video surveillance, alarm systems and securing facilities at closing; Responds and reports security problems twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week as scheduled. During rotation cycle, security is on call, and carries a department approved cell phone for after-hours emergency calls and needs to be able to respond within 30 minutes; Assists with building evacuation during alarm activation and may occasionally work in emergency, stressful situations; Provides security training and assists in the development of emergency response plans, policies, and procedures; Conducts visitor fee collection, customer service, audio tour rentals, and data collection during business hours and special events; Refers public inquiries and clients to appropriate staff; Assists with maintenance duties, custodial duties, museum staff and volunteers as needed. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of experience in public contact work which included applying and implementing rules, regulations or established policies OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    Some positions required working on evening, weekends, and/or holidays.
    Some positions require certification in CPR at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    Some positions require first aid certification at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
