The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

The Position
Information Technology (IT) Managers are responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and controlling the IT activities, in one or more IT specialization areas, of the State, a department, or a division.
Incumbents function as managers who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinate supervisors; develop policies and procedures; and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives. Serves as technical director for all Department IT projects, hardware and software specifications, security policies, and procurement of technology solutions. Provides recommendations and counsel for all IT related matters in the Department and serves as the IT subject matter expert to the Superintendent of Public Instruction. Serves as the State' lead IT resource for all Nevada public-school districts; serves as the Chairman of the Infinite Campus Governance Board; develops and implements required practices for the use of the SIS; and develops statewide standards. Oversees the Department's help desk operations; supports State and Federal data collections and reporting requirements; assists with interpretations and implementations of Federal, State and Departmental laws and policies. Requires a great deal of communication and collaboration with the 17 Nevada school districts and individual charter school authorities. Directly responsible for the development and management of the IT Office, its staff and budget. Works with fiscal staff to develop biennial budgets; justify budget requests; supports Department in Legislative and Governor's fiscal hearings, monitor expenses, and ensure expenditures do not budget allocations. Participates in the National Council of Chief State School Officers CIO Network and Education Information Management Advisory Collaborative.
Serves as the Nevada IT representative to guide future educational technology initiatives, policies, and processes. Ensures Nevada follows national education data standards and best practices in collecting, securing, and reporting educational information. Will participate in the Federal SLDS Grant program by applying for grants, identifying SLDS projects, and manage the grant projects when grants are received. Manages an IT Office staff that includes directly supervises of ITP 4s, indirect supervision of ITP 2s and 3s, BPA 2s and 3s, and ITT positions. Develop work performance standards and perform performance evaluations of the two direct reports. Responsible for all IT position recruiting, hiring and termination activities in accordance with State HR policies and procedures and interacts with internal management to problem solve conflicts requiring interpretation/application of policy. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in computer science, management information systems, or closely related field and five years of progressively responsible professional IT experience which involved project management, quality assurance, and computer operations, systems administration, network administration, database administration, or applications analysis and development. Two years of this experience must have been in a supervisory or project manager capacity; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
