Staff Associate Engineers perform professional engineering assignments not requiring licensure by the State Board of Professional Engineers & Land Surveyors.

Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.

This position is in the Dam Safety Program, although water rights duties may be involved in the role. The dam safety part of the job mainly requires inspections of existing dams across Nevada and assisting in the plan review and permitting process for new dams or alterations to existing dams. The inspection of existing dams requires fieldwork, as well as large amounts of data management. The permitting of new dams will require an in-depth knowledge of a broad range of civil engineering disciplines, as well as complex construction techniques. There are other miscellaneous duties that this position is in charge of, such as the operations and maintenance of the South Fork Dam. This position is also responsible for reviewing the work of staff members assisting in the duties described above.
