The Position
The State Archives Manager and Archivists perform a broad range of professional level duties in support of the State Archives or the special collections section of a university or community college library. Incumbents appraise, accession, describe or catalog, make available and perform research in special collections, published library materials and official records of continuing value.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. The Accessioning Archivist is responsible for accessioning paper and digital records in all formats and utilizes professional experience, archival standards, and best practices to lead the intake process. The incumbent coordinates the complex administrative and logistical operations that facilitate archival accessioning including communication with state agencies regarding the transfer of records to the State Archives, inspects incoming records, appraises records for archival values based upon state retention schedules and NRS 378, prepares transfer and accession forms, determines storage locations, performs initial rehousing of records, and maintains the overall organization and inventory.
Primary duties include appraisal, transfer, and accession of archival records, including baseline descriptions, processing plans, and location tracking. Acquires and accessions state government records through direct contact with State agency and Records Center staff and coordinates record deliveries. Uses professional judgement to examine the form, uniqueness, quantity, and informational content of state government records to ascertain whether they have evidential, historical, legal, administrative, or research value before accepting them into the State Archives' holdings. Prepares materials for use through accepted archival arrangement and description practices and standards by creating baseline descriptions of incoming materials at the time of accessioning. Performs conservation processes such as cleaning, humidifying, repairing, flattening, and/or chemically treating; preserve and protect archival materials by storing in acid-free containers; follows policies and procedures to protect materials from damage or loss. Leverages technology to track physical locations of boxes of records in the archives to ensure efficient retrieval. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in archives management, library science, history, information management or closely related field and one year of professional archival experience which included one or more of the following: appraisal, disposition, rights management, accessioning, arrangement/processing, description, preservation, conservation of archival materials, outreach and/or reference services; OR Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in archives management, library science, history, information management or closely related field and two years of professional experience as described above; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of professional experience as described above; OR one year of experience as an Archivist I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Notes
    Certification as an Archivist by the Academy of Certified Archivists is qualifying for Archivist I and II levels.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
