The Position
Tax Examiners are responsible for licensing/registration, collecting taxes and fees, and assisting taxpayers to ensure compliance with the applicable tax and registration statutes.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
The Excise team is recruiting for a Tax Examiner II within the Tobacco Enforcement Unit. This Tax Examiner will be on the Other Tobacco Products Team and is responsible for assisting taxpayer at the counter, by telephone or written correspondence and to provide guidance and information pertaining to Nevada Revises Statutes chapter 370 and Nevada Administrative Codes chapter 370. This position also assists with account updates, closures and answering questions that may arise. They are also responsible for the collection and reconciliation of revenue for their tax types, including balancing, desk audits, working delinquent returns, and reviewing submitted returns for accuracy and correct payment of taxes. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and one year of experience in bookkeeping, collections, or the interpretation and application of policies, regulations and/or legal requirements equivalent to an Administrative Assistant III or Accounting Assistant III in Nevada State service; OR Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of experience as stated above; OR one year of experience as a Tax Examiner I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
