The Position
Information Technology (IT) Technicians install, configure, monitor, and maintain networks and monitor and maintain help desk user support or mainframe and server operations.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others. The Division of Welfare and Supportive Services (DWSS) is currently recruiting to fill vacancies located in the Helpdesk at Carson City. These positions provide technical and program support to over 2000 end users including DWSS field staff, Child Support Enforcement Program Area Offices, statewide District Attorney Offices, and other State and Federal agencies.
Helpdesk technicians assist callers with password resets; installing and configuring software; and analyzing, diagnosing, and resolving technical and/or program issues for multiple internal and external software, network, and system applications. Technicians use a triage process which includes but is not limited to; asking in-depth technical and/or program questions and accessing end users' systems through remote access tools in order to diagnose and resolve system and/or program issues, reconfiguring and/or reinstalling software as needed, and determining if a system application is functioning within design specifications or if the issue is an actual application failure. The incumbent must work with other DWSS IT staff when issues occur affecting system operations; verify the extent of the issue; report findings to management; ensure all end users are notified in a timely manner of system wide failures and restorations; and if they are unable to resolve the issue at helpdesk level, the technician must escalate problem providing written analysis to the appropriate staff. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent and five years of experience utilizing the fundamentals of typical computer systems, operating systems, applications, and peripherals, three years of which must have included IT work experience in a user support role; OR (for positions in the Network Operations & Support specialty ONLY) Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of IT work experience in the upgrade or replacement of software and hardware components on networked workstations; OR one year of relevant experience as an IT Technician III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    Working evenings, weekends, and/or holidays is required.
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    This position requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
