The Position
Water System Operators perform technical duties related to testing and treatment of ground and surface water, the operational duties associated with the collection and storage of ground and surface water, and the treatment and distribution of water.
Under general direction, incumbents work at the advanced journey level on a water system designated by the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection as requiring certification as a Water Treatment Operator, grade 2 or higher or a Water Distribution Operator, grade 2. Duties at this level require advanced knowledge of treatment technology and operation of associated equipment.
We are seeking a Water System Operator II, responsible for managing water systems within the Southern Region of Nevada State Parks. As the Water Systems Operator, you will be tasked with executing the complete spectrum of duties related to water systems. This includes conducting water quality assurance work, ensuring compliance with State and Federal regulations in water filtration and monitoring. Your role will involve performing electrical and software maintenance on telemetry systems, SCADA systems, and cathodic protection units. Additionally, you will operate and maintain lift stations, with occasional transportation of heavy equipment. In this role, meticulous record-keeping is essential. You will be responsible for preparing and maintaining various computerized and written records, reports, and logs. To be successful in this role, candidates are required to have hands-on experience in water systems operations, encompassing the operation, repair, and maintenance of water distribution equipment and facilities, along with expertise in water quality assurance work. This position involves occasional weekend work, outdoor responsibilities, and potential call-out or call-back scenarios. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of experience in the operation and maintenance of a water treatment or water distribution system; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Notes
    All licenses, endorsements and certifications must be issued by the State of Nevada and must be maintained as a condition of continuing employment.
Special Requirements
    Working weekends may be required.
    This position is subject to call-out or call-back.
    Water System Operator II, State Parks, positions require certification as a Water Treatment Operator, grade 2 and Water Distribution Operator, grade 2 at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
Additional Position Criteria
    A valid Class A commercial driver's license is required within 1 year of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.
