The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

The Position
Highway Maintenance Workers are certified by the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) to operate a variety of complex or specialized highway maintenance and construction equipment in order to restore and maintain the integrity of roadway surfaces; maintain roadside slopes, shoulders, culverts and ditches to restore drainage and prevent erosion; and repair or replace related roadway appurtenances such as guardrails, markers, guide posts and fences.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. The Nevada Department of Transportation is recruiting to fill the Highway Maintenance Worker III position in Cold Springs Nevada. This position is located at the Cold Springs Maintenance Station, which is located 60 miles east of Fallon on US-50, in Churchill County. Onsite housing is available for selected applicant. The main responsibilities for this position will be to conduct regular maintenance activities such but not limited to repairing flexible asphalt (betterment projects), fixing fences and guardrails, repairing asphalt, snow removal, etc. The State of Nevada is an equal opportunity employer dedicated to building diverse, inclusive, and innovative work environments with employees who reflect our communities and enthusiastically serve them. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    One year of experience performing basic highway maintenance work; OR one year of experience as a Highway Maintenance Worker I in Nevada State service.
Special Requirements
    This position requires an applicant be at least 18 years of age upon application. If selected, proof of being at least 18 years of age will be required.
    This position may require working alternate shifts and outside of traditional business hours. The hours for this position are subject to change depending on the needs of the appointing authority and may be five 8-hour shifts or four 10-hour shifts.

    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. In addition, federal law requires random testing for controlled substances during employment.
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of application and as a condition of continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
    A valid Class A or B commercial driver's license is required within six months of employment.
