Staff Associate Engineers perform professional engineering assignments not requiring licensure by the State Board of Professional Engineers & Land Surveyors.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
The Nevada Division of Environmental Protection, Bureau of Sustainable Materials Management (BSMM) is hiring for a Staff Engineer position in the Carson City, Nevada office. The position offers a tremendous opportunity for growth and development for a recent graduate or someone with a couple years' experience. As a member of the permitting team, the individual will be responsible for evaluating permit applications, writing permits for solid waste management facilities, and periodically performing inspections. Additionally, opportunities may arise for the individual to work on the permitting of hazardous waste management facilities. The position may also work with the sustainability program in various capacities in an effort to bolster sustainability in the State. The successful applicant will gain experience in permit writing, compliance inspections and reporting, regulation review, and database development. The successful applicant will be encouraged and mentored while they work on obtaining their Professional Engineering license. Once the candidate obtains their PE license, they may have the opportunity to be promoted to the Professional Engineer position that they are underfilling. The selected candidate may be assigned additional duties as required to support the overall mission of BSMM and Division. Telework is currently not available.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Certification by the Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors as an Engineer Intern; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related engineering field; OR two years of journey level technical experience equivalent to an Engineering Technician III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. |
