Licensed Professional Engineers provide professional services involving the application of engineering principles and data, or activities in connection with public or private utilities, structures, buildings, machines, equipment or projects impacting the public welfare or the safeguarding of life, health or property.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
The Nevada Division of Environmental Protection, Bureau of Sustainable Materials Management (BSMM) is hiring for a Staff Engineer position in the Carson City, Nevada office. The position offers a tremendous opportunity for growth and development for a recent graduate or someone with a couple years' experience. As a member of the permitting team, the individual will be responsible for evaluating permit applications, writing permits for solid waste management facilities, and periodically performing inspections. Additionally, opportunities may arise for the individual to work on the permitting of hazardous waste management facilities. The position may also work with the sustainability program in various capacities in an effort to bolster sustainability in the State. The successful applicant will gain experience in permit writing, compliance inspections and reporting, regulation review, and database development. The successful applicant will be encouraged and mentored while they work on obtaining their Professional Engineering license. Once the candidate obtains their PE license, they may have the opportunity to promote to the Professional Engineer position that they are underfilling. The selected candidate may be assigned additional duties as required to support the overall mission of BSMM and Division. Telework is currently not available.

Current Licensure as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) |

A person that is a licensed Professional Engineer in another state must become licensed as a Professional Engineer in Nevada within six months of appointment as a condition of employment.

Registration as a Professional Engineer is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

| The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process. |
