Correctional Nurses provide professional nursing care to patients in a correctional setting.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
The Nevada Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) is recruiting for a Correctional Nurse 2 for the Caliente Youth Center (CYC) which is a 112-bed staff secure facility for male and female youth ages 12 -18. The CYC goal is to promote positive self-growth, create change in behavior, attitudes, values and ways of thinking for youth. Nurses actively participate in the multidisciplinary team to provide nursing care for youth. Dynamic work responsibilities include assessing and identifying youth health based needs; making clinical observations and evaluations; prepare nursing care plans; administering medications as prescribed by a physician of designee; monitoring patients for medication side effects and/or allergic reaction; provide routine, basic, and minor emergency care including stabilization of emergencies while arranging for transport; and ensure quality of care with established nursing standards and DCFS nursing policies.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

License as a Registered Nurse and two years of professional nursing experience, one of which was in a correctional or institutional setting; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. |

A Bachelor's degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or Associates degree in nursing and one year of experience. |

Out of state applicants must have a temporary license as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada Board of Nursing at the time of appointment and must obtain permanent licensure as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing as a condition of employment. |

Probationary employees must successfully complete pre-service training (PST) provided by the department. |

As a condition of appointment and continuing employment, positions are subject to call-back, overtime on short notice, stand-by status, and must work various hours and/or shifts including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. |

A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. |
|
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. |

CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. |
