The Position
Curators perform a broad range of professional and technical museum work involving, but not limited to, assessment, evaluation, survey, inventory, preservation, research, education and planning for a specific collection and/or program area within a museum.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This recruitment is for a Curator 1 underfilling a Curator 2: This is a professional position in the Department of Tourism & Cultural Affairs, Division of Museums & History at the Lost City Museum in Overton, Nevada. A curator II position is an advance journey-level position, which will require interaction with the public, generating new exhibit materials, and managing exhibit collections. The Curator of Exhibits position is responsible for: -museum education and programming related to exhibition collections, assisting school tours; management of museum exhibition collections (including registration, processing, preservation, conservation, security and appropriate use of artifacts in museum exhibits); exhibit and gallery management (inspecting, cleaning, and correcting existing exhibit content); exhibit transition management (developing new exhibit content, hands-on materials, design plans for exhibit replacement, etc.). This position has a variable work week from Wednesday through Sunday and is required to work some holidays. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in history, prehistory, natural history, museum studies, education, or closely related field plus one year of technical experience in a museum. This experience must have included collections registration, cataloging, basic archival research and/or developing, promoting, executing and evaluating educational programming; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
    Working outdoors is required.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
    This position may require to travel at least 25% of the time.
Additional Position Criteria
    This recruitment is only open to current classified employees in state service with at least six months of continuous, full-time equivalent service.
    This position requires flexible/rotating shifts and nights/weekends/holidays.
    This position requires submission of transcripts.
The Examination

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.
