Psychiatric Nurses provide professional nursing care to individuals with developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or social, emotional and/or behavioral disorders, in an institution or out-patient setting in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
Lakes Crossing Center (LCC), a maximum security forensic/psychiatric hospital is recruiting for a Psychiatric Nurse 3 position. The agency provides forensic mental health services for individuals that are involved in the criminal justice system and who need mental health services in order to proceed with their adjudication. Under general direction of the Psychiatric Nurse 4, the incumbent will provide professional nursing care to mentally ill clients and serve as a first-line supervisor. Duties include: providing work direction and resolving patient care and staffing issues; assigning and reviewing work or subordinate staff, providing counseling and applying discipline to subordinate staff in assigned work area on the shift. Additionally, the incumbent will participate in a multidisciplinary treatment team, utilize email and other technology as methods of communication for urgent matters, and perform other duties as assigned. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 6am to 2pm, however hours may vary and include evenings and weekends depending on the needs of the agency. The environment requires a high level of security awareness as well as the physical stamina or ability to deal with maladaptive and aggressive clients.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse and three years of professional nursing experience, two of which included working in a facility or institution with individuals with mental illness, developmental disabilities or intellectual disabilities; OR one year of experience as a Psychiatric Nurse II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. |

A bachelor's degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or associate's degree in nursing and one year of experience.

Out of state applicants must have a temporary license as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing at the time of appointment and must obtain permanent licensure as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing as a condition of continuing employment. |
