The Position
Mental Health Technicians supplement the work of mental health professionals, health specialists, and nursing staff in providing direct client care for clients in a mental health facility.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation. The Division of Public and Behavioral Health: Rural Clinics (RC) is recruiting for a full time Mental Health Tech II, (underfill for Mental Health Technician 3) in Fernley, NV. This position can be located and/or provide services at any of our Rural Clinics locations. Rural Clinics provides an array of outpatient behavioral health services for both adults and children in 16 clinics which are located in 12 counties across Rural Nevada. Services are generally provided Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Services assist individuals to achieve self-sufficiency and recovery. Any position that requires licensure to provide clinical services must have the person actively working towards licensure and once obtained, must maintain the license without lapses and be in good standing with applicable licensing boards.
The position provides Basic Skills rehabilitative mental health interventions under the direct and clinical supervision of a Qualified Mental Health Professional to restore mental health recipients to their highest level of functioning. The position documents all services provided on progress notes that are directly related to treatment goals in the Avatar electronic health record. The position provides positive reinforcement, modeling, operant conditioning, and other training techniques under direct and clinical supervision. Additional duties include reporting significant behavioral and/or medical problems to the interdisciplinary team, participating in interdisciplinary team and/or community meetings. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of experience, one of which was paraprofessional experience in a hospital, institutional, or residential setting providing care, treatment, training and supervision for individuals with mental illness. In addition, applicants must have completed coursework required while working toward certification in accordance with statute and regulation; OR one year of experience as a Mental Health Technician I or Developmental Support Technician in Nevada State service, and completion of coursework required by statute and regulation.
Special Notes
    In accordance with NAC 284.437, this series may be used to underfill Mental Health Professional positions when recruitment efforts for clinical positions in rural communities have been unsuccessful.
Special Requirements
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
