Conservation Staff Specialists assist in developing, formulating, and coordinating programs, policies and procedures related to areas such as resource management, safety and training, fire management and policy management pertinent to the assigned area of natural resource management, preservation, conservation and protection.
Under general supervision, Conservation Staff Specialist Is, on a regional basis, develop, formulate, and coordinate programs, policies and procedures related to the assigned area of natural resource management, preservation, conservation and protection.
About Nevada Division of State Parks
The Nevada Division of State Parks was founded when, during the 1963 session of the Nevada Legislature, a bill was passed to form a new state park agency within the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. Since then, we have established 27 State Parks throughout the State of Nevada.

The Position
This is primarily a field work position to assist the park with all conservation objectives. Aide with projects geared toward park planning and recreation for visitor enjoyment. Position will perform a variety of duties that are subject to change.
Will work to improve trails and trail enhancements (trail mapping, familiar with drones and GIS mapping, lead with maintenance, signage, informational/interpretive, trail enhancements to increase access to river and safety). Assist Rangers with establishing hunting and fishing areas, assist the park with planning, enhancing, and developing existing and new park recreational sites for visitor enjoyment or resource protection.
Seek and help administer conservation related grants and other funding opportunities within conservation program objectives, such as inventory and order chemicals and tools needed to achieve conservation objectives. Aid Division Staff, when requested, with clearances, SHPO-NIPPA, liaison with contractors or other businesses with conservation related projects (i.e., Manpower, Walker Basin Conservancy, Great Basin Institute, on trail building contractors, special organizations, and events such as NICCA Mountain Bike group). Use GIS, Tremble units, Scout software to track weed inventory. Organize and share weed inventory information with appropriate other agencies. Actively participate in weed and other noxious vegetation removal, mosquito abatement, tree health. Assist Park with Grazing Leases and Grazing Prescription Plans including interface with ranch leases on proper stock rotation, water needs, fence construction, vegetation enhancements, etc. Assist the Park with public outreach, education, special events. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in biology, ecology, environmental studies, environmental science, fire management, forestry, geology, natural resource management, parks management, or related field and two years of professional experience in a relevant resource management field that included assisting in developing, formulating, and coordinating programs, policies and procedures; coordinating special grant programs and/or contracts; and coordinating training programs; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and four years of professional experience as described above; OR one year of experience as a Biologist II, Conservation Crew Supervisor III, Conservation Staff Specialist Trainee II, Fire Captain, Forester II, Nursery Specialist II, or Park Ranger II (Non-Commissioned) in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. |

One year of experience in the AmeriCorps Program will qualify applicants at the Conservation Staff Specialist Trainee I level. |

Requires a valid driver's license at the time of appointment and for continuing employment. |

The selected candidate must obtain a Department of Agriculture Pesticide Applicator Certificate within 12 months of appointment and maintain certification as a condition of continuing employment. |

The selected candidate must complete Department of Conservation and Natural Resources standard flight training and obtain a FAA Part 107 UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle)/drone pilot's license within 12 months of appointment and maintain certifications as a condition of continuing employment. |

This position requires in State and out of State travel up to 25% of the time. |
