The Position
Conservation Aids assist professional staff in a variety of projects involving the conservation and preservation of the State's natural resources.
PER EXECUTIVE ORDER 2023-11, ALL MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS HAVE BEEN WAIVED FOR THIS POSITION UNTIL JUNE 30th, 2024. You must respond to the minimum qualifications screening question to ensure that your application moves forward. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
These 3-6 month duration seasonal status positions within the Habitat Division are focused on Wildlife Management Areas (WMA's) and Water Development related activities. Water Development positions will conduct activities involving guzzler maintenance, construction, and new builds. These positions may have ability to work in Winnemucca, Fallon, and/or Las Vegas, working four 10-hour days in the field and camping at remote location sites on the workdays. The position involves use of various construction equipment, power tools, lifting heavy materials, etc. The WMA seasonal positions are responsible for maintaining, in a safe and aesthetically pleasing manner, all property, equipment, structures and other public use facilities on various WMAs across the State. The employee must be familiar with wetland management strategies, the principles of plant succession and be able to identify the most common and important plant species found on the WMA's. Seasonal housing during the employment period for these positions is available at most of the WMA's and in Winnemucca. All positions require a valid driver's license at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. The positions will be recruited at all levels - Conservation Aid 1, Conservation Aid 2, and Conservation Aid 3. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school and one year of experience in resource conservation projects or wildlife management projects such as assisting with creel census, surveys, identifying fish and wildlife species, vegetation management or similar work; OR six months of experience as a Conservation Aid II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Notes
    Work may be performed under adverse weather conditions and include extensive walking under difficult conditions, camping in remote, primitive locations.

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.
