The Position
Mental Health Counselors provide counseling, case management, direct clinical services, community and home based services, and behavioral and human services to mentally ill, developmentally disabled and/or emotionally disturbed clients in an outpatient, residential, community or similar setting.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. The Division of Public and Behavioral Health: Rural Clinics (RC) has multiple openings for a full time Mental Health Counselor 2. Available locations include Fallon, Carson, Silver Springs, Ely, Winnemucca, & Elko. This position can be located and/or provide services at any of our Rural Clinics locations. Rural Clinics provides an array of outpatient behavioral health services for both adults and children in 16 clinics which are located in 12 counties across Rural Nevada. This position provides individual and group counseling, case management, and other direct clinical interventions/services for people who are mentally ill and emotionally disturbed. Services include screening and assessments using standardized techniques to determine client eligibility for services and appropriate course of treatment at the least restrictive level possible. This position also works with the consumer and others to develop and monitor the treatment plan, including participation in team meetings and coordinating services among members of the treatment team, consumer support systems and community entities and evaluates treatment effectiveness.
This position requires a working knowledge of theories/principles of counseling including assessing and treatment planning, symptoms, characteristics and treatment of mental illness, emotional and behavioral disorders, crisis intervention techniques, case management, and psycho-diagnostic techniques. The position also requires knowledge of laws governing abuse and neglect of clients. Services are generally provided Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Positions that require licensure to provide clinical services requires the person to be actively working towards licensure and once obtained, maintain the license without lapses and be in good standing with applicable licensing boards. Rural Clinics has been designated as a loan repayment site through the Health Research and Services Administration (HRSA) National Health Services Corps (NHSC). Any person providing specific services may be eligible to receive student loan repayment. Rural Clinics provides ongoing training including release time to attend training that is not Agency-sponsored. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Master's degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, marriage and family therapy, psychology, social work or closely related academic field and two years of post-master's degree professional mental health counseling experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and clinical experience at or above a Master's degree and experience as described above.
Special Notes
    Some positions require specialized training and experience working with specific client populations.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    Licensure or certification as a Mental Health Counselor, Certified Counselor, Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist, Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, or Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor issued by the appropriate licensing or certification authority is required at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
