Information Technology (IT) Professionals analyze, develop, implement, maintain, and modify computer operations, systems, networks, databases, applications, and/or information security. Incumbents may perform duties in one or more IT specialization areas depending on the needs of the agency.
IT Professional I: Under general supervision, incumbents perform duties as continuing trainees. This is a supervisory level for the Computer Operations function. Computer Operations: Under general supervision, incumbents supervise IT Technician Trainees, I's, II's, III's, and IV's. Some incumbents may be required to supervise IT Technician V's and/or VI's. Systems Administration, Network Administration, Database Administration, Applications Analysis and Development, Information Security: Incumbents continue to receive training in the performance of many of the duties described in the series concept. This is a continuing trainee level in the series and
progression to the next level in the series may occur upon meeting minimum qualifications, satisfactory performance, and with the recommendation of the appointing authority.
This recruitment is for an IT Professional 1, Underfill for an IT Professional 2, within the Department of Business & Industry, Director's Office. This position is specifically assigned to the Division of Industrial Relations (DIR) with offices located throughout Nevada. Primary Duty stations will be in Reno and Carson City, with travel to outlying offices and Las Vegas periodically. This position will report directly to the Director's Office IT Professional 4 position and will be responsible for the overall daily IT operations of the agency.
Key responsibilities include user support. This includes triaging helpdesk requests, administering user accounts and access to resources, troubleshooting, resolving IT related problems, installing, configuring, deploying, monitoring, and maintaining computers, mobile devices, peripherals and servicing video conference and Wi-Fi devices throughout the division and department. Other responsibilities include imaging and deploying PCs and laptops; ensuring systems are properly updated and patched; monitoring local area networks (LANs) and wireless access devices; basic server monitoring and support; and monitoring system backups and restoring systems as needed. Note: Microsoft Server and/or VMware experience is a plus; however, the incumbent can obtain these skills over time.
The incumbent will ensure that proper security protocols are followed, sensitive data is protected, and that documentation on IT infrastructure and processes is maintained. Good customer service skills are required, as well as the ability to communicate with technical and non-technical personnel clearly and effectively and train others within a collaborative team environment to resolve issues such as databases, cloud applications, Active Directory infrastructure and network issues. Responsibilities will expand as the incumbent gains more experience in the position.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, management information systems, or closely related field and one year of IT experience relevant to the duties of the position which may include computer operations, systems administration, network administration, database administration, applications analysis and development, and/or information security; OR one year of experience as an IT Professional Trainee II in Nevada State service; OR three years of relevant technical experience equivalent to an IT Technician IV or above in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. |
