The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

The Position
Seasonal Firefighters assist in wildland and structural fire suppression, fire prevention and education, medical and hazardous materials emergencies, presuppression, equipment and facility maintenance, and forestry and fire law enforcement activities.
PER EXECUTIVE ORDER 2023-11, ALL MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS HAVE BEEN WAIVED FOR THIS POSITION UNTIL JUNE 30TH, 2024. Please refer to the link for more information: https://gov.nv.gov/Newsroom/ExecOrders/Executive-Orders/ Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
As a Seasonal Firefighter, you are responsible for supporting safe and effective wildfire response, facilitating fire adapted community improvements and maintaining healthy and resilient forest, rangeland and watershed ecosystems. Seasonal firefighters will receive extensive training and field experience to enhance their ability to assist in these areas. When not assigned to a wildland fire, a Seasonal Firefighter's day-to-day job entails working as a crew member, often in remote and rugged terrain to implement hazardous fuel reduction and ecosystem restoration projects. This kind of work typically involves thinning excess vegetation, piling thinned material, using prescribed burning, applying herbicides, seeding and planting, and other methods that reduce the risk a wildfire, restore health ecosystems and protect communities in the wildland urban interface. We're looking for a motivated team player with an appetite for the outdoors and adventure! Selected applicants are required to pass a work capacity test which consists of a three (3) mile walk, carrying forty-five (45) pounds in less than forty-five (45) minutes. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education, completion of certifications as required by the agency, and one year of firefighting experience; OR one year of experience as a Seasonal Firefighter II in Nevada State service.
Special Notes
    As part of the hiring process, applicants for positions in the Nevada System of Higher Education may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform job-related tasks.
    Some positions may require a Class "B" driver's license and endorsements specified at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    A current Nevada Class B Drivers License is required at time of appointment.
Special Requirements
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, all positions in this series have been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this class must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    Specialized certifications, training and/or experience are required and will be identified at the time of recruitment.
    A valid Nevada Class B driver's license with Hazmat Tanker Endorsement is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

    Applicants may be required to pass a medical examination and physical agility test prior to appointment and for continuing employment.
