The Position
Conservation Staff Specialists assist in developing, formulating, and coordinating programs, policies and procedures related to areas such as resource management, safety and training, fire management and policy management pertinent to the assigned area of natural resource management, preservation, conservation and protection.
Under general supervision, Conservation Staff Specialist Is, on a regional basis, develop, formulate, and coordinate programs, policies and procedures related to the assigned area of natural resource management, preservation, conservation and protection.
Under the direct supervision of the Urban and Community Forestry (UCF) Program Manager, this position is responsible for providing community forestry assistance and programs to field units, partners, and communities focusing in northeastern Nevada and rural communities throughout the state integrated with the agency's broader program of work. An NDF Urban and Community Forestry Program Assistant is the lead implementer of UCF program work in their region providing direct services to their communities through technical and educational assistance. This position will be working with municipalities, established and developing community groups, and nonprofit organizations to provide professional forestry expertise in support of their urban and community initiatives, programs, and projects. The UCF program assistant will provide the assistance necessary to develop and build long-term comprehensive UCF programs across Nevada by providing direct outreach, technical assistance, planning, and assist with project and proposal development and implementation. This position operates out of Elko, NV. Candidates must be able to travel to locations through northeastern and Central Nevada and occasionally throughout the entirety of the state for regional coordination meetings, and other public engagement opportunities, plant sales, and workshops. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in biology, ecology, environmental studies, environmental science, fire management, forestry, geology, natural resource management, parks management, or related field and two years of professional experience in a relevant resource management field that included assisting in developing, formulating, and coordinating programs, policies and procedures; coordinating special grant programs and/or contracts; and coordinating training programs; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and four years of professional experience as described above; OR one year of experience as a Biologist II, Conservation Crew Supervisor III, Conservation Staff Specialist Trainee II, Fire Captain, Forester II, Nursery Specialist II, or Park Ranger II (Non-Commissioned) in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

    May be required to work varying hours and shifts including holidays, weekends and evenings.
    Some positions require specialized skills and experience in grant management, policy development, equipment and property management, fire and/or resource management, or other natural resource fields and will be identified at the time of recruitment.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Requires a valid driver's license at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
