The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

Accountants are responsible for preparing financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the standards of the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB).
This position serves as the sole accounting staff for the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection, Office of Financial Assistance, State Revolving Fund (SRF) and Capital Improvement Grant programs. The SRF programs are classified as a major enterprise fund on the state' Annual Comprehensive Financial Statement with over $555 million in assets. The incumbent's determinations over borrower's creditworthiness and coding to use in processing financial transactions keeps the program in compliance with federal requirements and generally accepted accounting principles.
Under general supervision, the incumbent independently compiles financial statements of the SRF according to generally accepted accounting principles; reviews, maintains, and reconciles internal and external program databases; and reviews official programmatic state accounting transactions for accuracy. The position also provides independent financial review of audited financial statements and/or tax returns for current and potential loan borrowers and provides program guidance on generally accepted accounting principles. The programs have federal and state legal requirements to make sure funds are accounted for according to these principles; the incumbent is expected to have (or acquire) working knowledge of these principles and standards established by the Governmental Accounting Standards Board.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in accounting and one year of experience performing professional accounting work; OR a bachelor's degree in business administration, finance or related field which included 18 credits in accounting and two years of experience performing professional accounting work; OR one year of experience as an Accountant I in Nevada State service and 18 college credits in accounting.
Special Notes
The required 18 college credits in accounting must include 6 credits of beginning accounting, 6 credits of intermediate accounting, and 6 credits of upper-division accounting courses.
