The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

JOB INFORMATION
Work Type: Permanent, full time vacancies as they may occur
in this geographical location.
Staff Associate Engineers perform professional engineering assignments not requiring licensure by the State Board of Professional Engineers & Land Surveyors.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This recruitment may be used to fill multiple positions within the Nevada Department of Transportation's Rotational Engineer Program. Rotational Engineers work in various divisions throughout the department and receive experience in a variety of civil engineering disciplines while gaining a perspective of department operations. The experience gained will provide the individual with the necessary skills and experience to seek a variety of career opportunities within the department and prepare themselves for future leadership roles including supervisory and managerial.
Incumbents will progress through two phases of the program over 24-months. Phase one takes incumbents through a 19-month core training rotation through 14 major divisions within the agency: Structural Design, Roadway Design, Materials, Hydraulics, Maintenance and Asset Management, Traffic Operations, Traffic Safety, Construction, Project Management, Environmental Services, Stormwater, Right-of-Way, Planning and Location. Phase two allows incumbents the opportunity to gain more in-depth exposure to a specific division or district based on the incumbent's career interests. Civil engineering field work experience gained in a college level internship, Engineer-in-Training (EIT) program, or college research position is required. Having and maintaining a valid Driver's license is required. Position location is at Nevada Department of Transportation's headquarters in CARSON CITY but travel up to 50% of the time on the job, statewide outside of Carson City on limited basis is required. Working a variable work schedule outside the typical Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM schedule with possible nights and/or weekends is required.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Certification by the Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors as an Engineer Intern; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related engineering field; OR two years of journey level technical experience equivalent to an Engineering Technician III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. 1) During the duration of appointment in the Rotational Engineer program, having and maintaining a valid Driver's license to operate NDOT fleet motor vehicles to reach multiple duty stations and field locations is required. Are you able to meet this requirement?
