Biologists conduct fisheries, wildlife and/or habitat management projects and research studies including data collection, analysis and interpretation; develop and implement project proposals and work plans; prepare recommendations; and participate in public relations activities.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
The Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Division of Natural Heritage (NDNH) is the state's comprehensive source of scientific data for Nevada's at-risk plants, animals, and ecological communities. Our mission is to maintain these data to support land management decisions and ensure the continued existence of Nevada's unique biodiversity.
This position serves as a Biologist III, Botanist, for the Nevada Division of Natural Heritage (NDNH) within the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. Under general supervision, the Botanist will serve as the lead worker to implement a large grant focusing on data development for critically imperiled and BLM-Sensitive rare plants. Principal duties will be split seasonally between fieldwork and office tasks. Office work duties will include entering data into the NDNH database and using scientific data and technical expertise to prepare reports detailing distribution, biology, threats, and professional management recommendations for individual taxa. The Botanist will also update conservation status rankings in the NDNH database and work cooperatively with numerous governmental agencies to plan summer fieldwork. From mid-April to mid-September, the Botanist will lead one field crew to collect monitoring data for Nevada's rare plant species.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in biology, wildlife management or closely related field and three years of professional wildlife management experience such as conducting research studies including data collection, analysis and interpretation; development and implementation of project proposals for fisheries, wildlife and/or habitat management projects; OR two years of experience as a Biologist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. |

Work may be performed under adverse weather conditions and include extensive walking under difficult conditions in remote and/or primitive locations. |

Working on occasional nights and/or weekends may be required. |
 |
Statewide travel and outdoor work is required. |
 |
A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. |
