Under general supervision, Therapeutic Recreation Specialists perform initial and periodic assessments, treatment planning, and therapeutic services to assist individuals in correctional institutions, rehabilitation programs, long-term care facilities, residential facilities, mental health facilities and facilities for individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities to improve their mental and physical health and/or social functioning.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
Southern Nevada Adult Mental Health Services (SNAMHS) is recruiting for a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist I. This position is located at Rawson-Neal Psychiatric Hospital, 1650 Community College Dr, Las Vegas, NV.
Therapeutic Recreation Specialists interview patients to determine recreational interests and physical, mental, and/or emotional limitations; reviews medical records and consults with medical personnel regarding physical disabilities, injuries, or other medical conditions; evaluates individual strengths and needs; outlines therapeutic activities and prepares treatment plans within the constraints of the available resources, facilities, and security requirements. They conduct individual and group therapy sessions, modify, and adapt equipment to accommodate special needs; plan, organize, and implement several therapeutic activities including fitness, wellness, leisure education, social skills, and art.
This is a full-time position working an innovative variable schedule with overtime after 40 hours per week.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in therapeutic recreation, recreation, or specialty area, such as art, dance, music or physical education and one year of technical experience in recreation therapy in a clinical, residential, community-based and/or correctional environment; OR certification by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC); OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. |

A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. |

Must be available to work evenings, weekends and some holidays. |
