Biologists conduct fisheries, wildlife and/or habitat management projects and research studies including data collection, analysis and interpretation; develop and implement project proposals and work plans; prepare recommendations; and participate in public relations activities.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
The primary duties of this position involve the coordination and implementation of surveys for non-game wildlife in the northwestern region, based out of the Winnemucca NDOW office. This position is responsible for compiling and summarizing data into annual reports, providing reviews of resource management documents to the NDOW Habitat Division, and assisting with coordination of endangered species management and recovery actions. This position works on a variety of taxa including mammals, birds, amphibians and reptiles, with surveys and monitoring efforts potentially shifting from year to year. This position assists with detailed data analysis, population monitoring, coordination with federal and state partners and implementing the goals and actions within the State Wildlife Action Plan. The position is part of a dynamic team working across the state collaboratively on wildlife conservation and management both within the Wildlife Diversity Division and the Department as a whole. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in biology, wildlife management or closely related field and three years of professional wildlife management experience such as conducting research studies including data collection, analysis and interpretation; development and implementation of project proposals for fisheries, wildlife and/or habitat management projects; OR two years of experience as a Biologist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. |

Work may be performed under adverse weather conditions and include extensive walking under difficult conditions in remote and/or primitive locations. |
|
Working on occasional nights and/or weekends may be required. |
|
Statewide travel and outdoor work is required. |
|
A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. |
