The Position
Conservation Staff Specialists assist in developing, formulating, and coordinating programs, policies and procedures related to areas such as resource management, safety and training, fire management and policy management pertinent to the assigned area of natural resource management, preservation, conservation and protection.
Conservation Staff Specialists assist in developing, formulating, and coordinating programs, policies and procedures related to areas such as resource management, safety and training, fire management and policy management pertinent to the assigned area of natural resource management, preservation, conservation and protection. This position is responsible for leadership and oversight of all Natural Resource Stewardship and Conservation programming which includes supporting and guiding natural resource management planning and implementation approaches performed by field staff. The position supervises two statewide program coordinators, the Seedbank and Biomass Coordinator and the Lead Nursery Manager. The position administers the Federal Forest Stewardship, Forest Legacy, and Conservation Education grants as well as state level wildfire restoration and rehabilitation programs.
Grant administration duties include preparing annual grant solicitations, grant applications, annual reporting, ensuring compliance with state and federal guidelines, budget creation and budget tracking. The incumbent oversees a subgrant program to recipients conducting landscape scale restoration and other natural resource management activities. These duties include developing subgrants, monitoring progress, evaluating reimbursements, and ensuring compliance with federal regulations, and documenting completion. The position is expected to work across programs in the Division to ensure that the agency is strategically moving toward goals and objectives as a whole. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in biology, ecology, natural resource management, forestry, parks management, fire management or related field and three years of journey level professional experience in a relevant resource management field that included assisting in developing, formulating, and coordinating programs, policies and procedures; coordinating special grant programs and/or contracts; and coordinating training programs; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Notes
    Incumbents may be required to obtain and maintain certification as an Agency Certified Contract Monitor.
    Some positions require specialized skills and experience in grant management, policy development, equipment and property management, fire and/or resource management, or other natural resource field and will be identified at the time of recruitment.
Special Requirements
    Applicants may be required to undergo a background investigation prior to being considered for employment.
    Some positions require a valid Nevada Class A or B driver's license at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
