Mental Health Counselors provide counseling, case management, direct clinical services, community and home based services, and behavioral and human services to mentally ill, developmentally disabled and/or emotionally disturbed clients in an outpatient, residential, community or similar setting.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
Southern Nevada Adult Mental Health Services (SNAMHS) is hiring for a Mental Health Counselor II at Stein Forensic Hospital in Las Vegas. This position serves as the team lead of Psychiatric Caseworkers. The case manager team provides service coordination assistance for patients with service needs such as groups, resources, token economy, and field services as needed. This team participates in treatment teams and direct patient care.
The candidate will provide professional, direct patient care to mentally ill adults and will provide individual, and/or group therapy to mental health clients of all ages. In addition, this person may complete assessments for patients, conduct intakes, and/or provide clinical evaluations. In addition, the position supervises a team and carries a small caseload. Direct clinical services are provided in a forensic hospital and sometimes in an outpatient clinic or community setting. Incumbents will work directly with a team of clinicians, psychiatric nurses, and other mental health professionals in a forensic hospital setting. The position ensures compliance with Joint Commission and CMS standards, established laws, regulations, and SNAMHS policies.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, marriage and family therapy, psychology, social work or closely related academic field and two years of post-master's degree professional mental health counseling experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and clinical experience at or above a Master's degree and experience as described above.

Working evenings, weekends, and/or holidays is required.

Moderate travel is required.
A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
Candidate must hold licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist, Clinical Professional Counselor, or Licensed Clinical Social Worker.
