The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

Mental Health Counselors provide counseling, case management, direct clinical services, community and home based services, and behavioral and human services to mentally ill, developmentally disabled and/or emotionally disturbed clients in an outpatient, residential, community or similar setting.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) is currently recruiting for a full-time Mental Health Counselor II position in Sparks, Nevada. This recruitment may be used to fill current and future vacancies as they occur in the Sierra Regional Center (SRC) and the Office of Community Living (OCL).
The Mental Health Counselor II in developmental services works with individuals who have intellectual and/or developmental disabilities and related conditions such as, Autism, Seizures, Cerebral Palsy and Traumatic Brain Injury. In many cases individuals served also have co-occurring mental health diagnoses.
Work responsibilities include consultation and counseling, behavioral supports, individual, family, and group therapies, and crisis management. Direct services utilize Person Center Planning, Positive Behavior Support, and a consultation team model. The MHCII participates in training and program development activities and oversight committee work.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Master's degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, marriage and family therapy, psychology, social work or closely related academic field and two years of post-master's degree professional mental health counseling experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and clinical experience at or above a Master's degree and experience as described above. |

Some positions require specialized training and experience working with specific client populations.
