Administrative Assistants perform a broad variety of clerical, secretarial and administrative support duties in an assigned agency, program or other work unit within State government and the Nevada System of Higher Education.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
This position is located within the Records Communications and Compliance Division in Carson City for the Nevada Point of Contact Firearms Program. The work schedule is either Sunday - Thursday or Tuesday - Saturday, 8:30am to 5:30pm depending on office needs. It requires the ability to work all state holidays excluding New Year's Day, 4th of July, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. Overtime is also offered based on call volume. The incumbent is responsible for conducting background checks for individuals attempting to purchase or redeem firearms. The incumbent must do this by interpreting Federal and State laws to determine eligibility. Once a prohibiting arrest is found the incumbent must then correspond with multiple levels of criminal justice agencies to request arrest reports and information. The incumbent must also determine which individuals are prohibited and enter these individuals into a federal database that will prevent the person from being able to purchase a firearm in another state. The position requires certification in NCJIS/NCIC within six months of employment and recertification every two years for continued employment. The NCJIS/NCIC certification will be conducted by the Division.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of progressively responsible relevant work experience which included experience in one or more of the following areas: maintenance of complex records and files; public/customer relations including explaining detailed policies, regulations and requirements; preparation and processing of financial and statistical documents such as payroll, travel, claims and budgeting forms; and assisting staff and management with projects and activities; OR one year of experience as an Administrative Assistant II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
The incumbent is required to work varied shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays.
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
This position requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
