The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

Mental Health Counselors provide counseling, case management, direct clinical services, community and home based services, and behavioral and human services to mentally ill, developmentally disabled and/or emotionally disturbed clients in an outpatient, residential, community or similar setting.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
The Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) is recruiting for a Mental Health Counselor 2 position within the Engagement Team (ET) and the Intensive Step-Down (ISD) Team. The Mobile Crisis Response Team (MCRT) developed two specialized programs to provide more intensive and targeted in-home services: Engagement Team (ET) and Intensive Step-Down (ISD) Team. The overall goal for the ET and ISD Team is to reduce the need for higher level of care placements by helping youth and families develop stability in the home. ET/ISD Teams can work with families for up to 90 days. Both programs serve youth with complex behavioral and mental health needs.
The Engagement Teams serve youth between 5 and 18 years with severe emotional disturbances (SED) who are involved in multiple systems and have recently engaged in a crisis response with MCRT.
These youth do not typically need acute psychiatric hospitalization, but do need short-term intensive, in-home and community-based supports to remain safely in their homes and communities. The Intensive Step-Down Team serves youth 5-18 years old with Serious Emotional Disability (SED) who are multi-system involved and are transitioning from highly structured 24/7 care facilities back to their homes and communities. These youth often have a history of multiple, out of home placements. ET-ISD clinicians complete stabilization services for youth through individual and/or family therapy. ET-ISD clinicians are assigned fewer families due to increased intensity and frequency of visits, averaging about two to three a week. ET-ISD clinicians provide crisis support for assigned families, as needed.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, marriage and family therapy, psychology, social work or closely related academic field and two years of post-master's degree professional mental health counseling experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and clinical experience at or above a Master's degree and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
Working evenings, weekends, and/or holidays is required.
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
Licensure or certification as a Mental Health Counselor, Certified Counselor, Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist, Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, or Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor issued by the appropriate licensing or certification authority is required at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
