Accountant Technicians perform technical accounts maintenance work for agencies with complex accounting functions or systems. Factors that contribute to complexity include, but are not limited to, federal grant reporting, external bank accounts, cost allocation plans, budget accounts, bank guidelines other than those contained in the State Administrative Manual, enterprise accounting, complex fund accounting, and external reporting requirements.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation. OR Incumbents perform basic tasks or elements of the job not requiring the additional knowledge, skills and abilities to perform at the next level in the series.
The Nevada Department of Corrections, Prison Industries has an opening for an Accounting Technician 1. This position requires general knowledge of State of Nevada accounting and bookkeeping principals, generally accepted accounting principles, knowledge/ability to read and understand financial reports and proficiency in databases and spreadsheet usage and ability to perform technical financial actions and independently conceptualize and problem solve.
Incumbent will work as part of a financial team for an enterprise governmental entity. The position will be the junior account technician and assist in the direction of other staff, including an Accounting Assistant 3. This position is primarily responsible for Accounts Receivable functions but will ensure cross training with other staff to eliminate single points of failure and ensure position continuity. Typical duties include reconcile and monitor accounts to ensure balanced accounts; ensure payments are received timely in line with state policy and procedure; track accounts activities and report any delays; assist in the development of budgets for governmental services; inventory tracking, work closely with vendor, facilities, and contracts for fiscal and management function; and develop position and task-based manuals/policy.

Graduation from high school supplemented by 6 college credits in beginning accounting and two years of financial records maintenance experience which includes such duties as controlling accounts payable/receivable; preparing financial reports for internal management use; and reconciling complex accounts; OR two years of experience as an Accounting Assistant III in Nevada State service which includes 6 college credits in beginning accounting; OR one year as an Accounting Assistant IV in Nevada State service which includes 6 college credits in beginning accounting; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above which must have included 6 college credits in beginning accounting. |
