The Position
Environmental Scientists perform program research, planning and development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections/enforcement, and technical support services in relation to air, water, waste, federal facilities, corrective action, mining, biology and other environmental programs.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
This Environmental Scientist III (ESIII) position is being recruited for the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection, Bureau of Corrective Actions (BCA). The position will primarily perform duties for the Remediation Branch and Superfund Branch within BCA. The ESIII will serve as technical support and project management support for site investigations and assessments. The successful candidate will demonstrate general and specific knowledge, skills and abilities in the acquisition, processing, and management of geospatial data for the purpose of characterizing and mapping the extent and potential impacts of contaminant releases to the environment. The ESIII will work with supervisors and peers to analyze, assess, and review information and environmental data acquired by the responsible party and agency staff to meet requirements under state and federal regulation. The data analyses will determine the need for corrective action and compliant closure of contamination releases to soil and groundwater. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the physical, natural resource or life sciences, engineering or closely related field and three years of professional environmental experience which involved environmental program research and planning; OR graduation from high school or equivalent and five years of professional environmental experience as described above; OR one year of experience as an Environmental Scientist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
The Examination

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.
