The Position
Positions in this series manage, supervise and participate in wildland fire suppression; fire prevention and education; presuppression; equipment and facility maintenance; and forestry and fire law enforcement. Assist the Forestry Program Manager - Fire to ensure that the components of the divisions Wildland Fire Protection Program are managed and operated in an efficient, accurate and safe manner consistent with federal, State, and division regulations, policies and procedures.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. Positions in this series participate in wildland fire suppression; fire prevention and education; pre-suppression and fuels reduction; equipment and facility maintenance; and forestry and natural resource conservation projects. This position will assist the Firefighter II, Fire Captain and/or Conservation Crew Supervisor to ensure that the agency's natural resource and wildland fire management program areas are implemented in an efficient, accurate and safe manner consistent with federal, State, and division regulations, policies, and procedures. The Division of Forestry's mission is to protect and enhance Nevada's ecosystems and communities through natural resource stewardship and wildfire management. This position, under the supervision of the Firefighter II, Fire Captain and/or Conservation Crew Supervisor acts as a team member on a fire and fuels crew module of multiple firefighters that participate in all functional areas of wildland fire and resource management. This includes wildfire prevention, suppression and rehabilitation, fuels reduction treatments, natural resource restoration, and public education.
In addition to the minimum qualifications listed below, applicants must be qualified as a NWCG Firefighter II (FFT2 or higher) at time of application and must maintain this qualification for the duration of employment. Incumbents will need to become an NWCG Faller B (FALBt) trainee upon hire and become fully qualified within 3 years; as well as complete the NDF Natural Resource Task Book and obtain a CDL Class B license, both within 3 years of hire. To verify these eligibility requirements for the position, a copy of your Red Card, or equivalent, MUST be attached to application at time of submittal. Applicants must pass a work capacity test at the arduous level prior to appointment and annually for continued employment. The test consists of a three (3) mile walk, carrying a forty-five (45) pound pack, in less than forty-five (45) minutes. Travel up to 50% of the time may be required. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of firefighting experience.
Special Notes
    Some positions in this series are required to obtain and maintain a Nevada commercial driver's license with endorsements as specified by the agency.
Special Requirements
    Positions in this series are required to work varied shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays.
    Applicants may be required to undergo a background investigation prior to being considered for employment.
    Incumbents must obtain additional certifications, as identified by the agency, within specific timeframes identified by the agency, and must maintain those certifications as a condition of continuing employment.
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    All positions in this series must have certifications as identified by the agency at the time of application.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, all positions in this class have been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this class must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    Applicants may be required to pass a thorough medical examination and physical agility test prior to appointment and for continuing employment.

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.
