Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

The Position
Highway Equipment Mechanics maintain, repair, and modify medium (GVWR 10,500-26,000 lbs.) and heavy (GVWR greater than 26,000 lbs.) highway maintenance and construction equipment.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
This position is located in the Equipment Shop, Las Vegas. Hours for this position are Monday through Thursday 5:00 AM to 3:30 PM. This position repairs and maintains all gasoline and diesel equipment and vehicles, electrical equipment, cooling systems, hydraulic systems, transmissions, drivelines, differentials, and brake systems. This position designs, fabricate, and welds mechanical apparatuses such as battery holders, toolboxes, and mounting brackets. Steam clean equipment parts. Perform emergency repairs when sent out of the shop for road calls. Utilized part books and manuals. Fill out and complete repair orders and part requisitions. Compile information and maintain records equipment usage, open work orders equipment data files tools and equipment inventory. This position will also complete ordering and communication within the department and serve as a lead person in shop, assist the supervisor daily and perform supervisor's duties when absent.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Completion of a recognized automotive/equipment repair apprenticeship program followed by two years of journey level experience in the maintenance and repair of medium and heavy duty vehicles and equipment; OR completion of the Equipment Mechanic-in-Training program in Nevada State service followed by two years of journey level experience as described above; OR one year of experience as a Highway Equipment Mechanic II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Notes
A valid Class A or B Nevada commercial driver's license is required within six months of the date of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Special Requirements
Incumbent is required to furnish their own mechanic's tools.
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. In addition, federal law required random testing for controlled substances during employment.
