The Position
Curators perform a broad range of professional and technical museum work involving, but not limited to, assessment, evaluation, survey, inventory, preservation, research, education and planning for a specific collection and/or program area within a museum.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
The Department of Tourism & Cultural Affairs is recruiting to fill a Curator 2 vacancy within the Division of Museums & History in Overton, Nevada. The incumbent serves as the Curator of Exhibits for the Lost City Museum and is responsible for assisting with museum education and programming related to exhibition collections; management of museum exhibition collections including registration, processing, preservation, conservation, security, and appropriate use of artifacts; exhibit and gallery management including inspecting, cleaning, and correcting existing exhibit content; exhibit transition management including developing new exhibit content and hands-on materials and designing plans for exhibit replacement; and graphic design. This position has a variable work week from Sunday to Thursday and is required to work some holidays. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in history, prehistory, natural history, museum studies, education, or closely related field plus two years of professional experience in a museum. This experience must have included experience in exhibit development, and collections registration, and/or developing, promoting, executing and evaluating educational programming; OR one year of experience as a Curator I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
    Working outdoors is required.
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
