The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

The Position
Environmental Scientists perform program research, planning and development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections/enforcement, and technical support services in relation to air, water, waste, federal facilities, corrective action, mining, biology and other environmental programs.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others. The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, protects, manages, and enhances the State's resources to provide the highest quality of life for Nevada's citizens and visitors. The Nevada Department of Conservation & Natural Resources with over 900 employees consists of the Director's Office and the following divisions: Environmental Protection, Conservation Districts, Forestry, State Lands, State Parks, Water Resources, Conservation Districts, Sagebrush Ecosystem, and the Natural Heritage Program. The Department also provides support staff to the Nevada Tahoe Regional Planning Agency and has responsibility for numerous other Boards, Commissions, and Councils. The Department has agencies and/or provides program services in every community of the State.
This position is part of a five member interagency, multi-disciplinary team that is located in Carson City and focused on the sagebrush ecosystem. This position represents the Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, State Lands Division and is located in Carson City, NV. The primary duty of this position is the oversight and facilitation of the Conservation Credit System, including implementing restoration and preservation projects to protect the Sagebrush Ecosystem, with a focus on the Greater Sage-grouse habitat. The incumbent will work with multiple agencies, landowners and other jurisdictions in the development of plans, methods and procedures to ensure the success of the Sagebrush Ecosystem Program. Additionally, this position prepares professional reports and presentations to support recommendations for consideration of the Sagebrush Ecosystem Council (SEC). The selected candidate will use approved ArcGIS and other scientifically vetted tools to ensure the highest level of defensible documentation to address habitat impacts related to anthropogenic and natural disturbance activities within the sagebrush ecosystem. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the physical, natural resource or life sciences, engineering or closely related field and three years of professional environmental experience which involved environmental program research and planning; OR graduation from high school or equivalent and five years of professional environmental experience as described above; OR one year of experience as an Environmental Scientist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

    Some positions may require specialized education and/or experience which will be identified at the time of recruitment.
Special Requirements
    This position has a 25% travel requirement.
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
    Experience with ArcGIS is required.
    Experience with database management, and/or website management is required.
