The Position
Accountant Technicians perform technical accounts maintenance work for agencies with complex accounting functions or systems. Factors that contribute to complexity include, but are not limited to, federal grant reporting, external bank accounts, cost allocation plans, budget accounts, bank guidelines other than those contained in the State Administrative Manual, enterprise accounting, complex fund accounting, and external reporting requirements.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation. The State of Nevada Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) is seeking an Accountant Technician I, underfilling for an Accountant Technician II for the Division's central office located in Carson City. This position will be responsible for all fiscal/budget functions related to the Victims of Crime budget account and the Division's victim services grants. The position will develop and maintain comprehensive narrative and financial reports for presentation to the Division's management team, which includes detailed monthly operating statements; develop revenue and expenditure forecasts by analyzing current and historical fiscal data and trends; in partnership with program managers, assess program needs; and maintains program budget accounts to ensure expenditures are within budgetary limits.
This position assists with the development and implementation of policies, procedures and internal controls; tracks multiple victim service grants and various funding types; monitors and reviews contracts and subgrants; and participates in the preparation, monitoring and maintenance of the program and biennial budget for the Division. Overtime may be required during the preparation of the Division's biennial budget from March through August in even numbered years. Upon progression to the Accountant Tech 2 level, the position will supervise one Accounting Assistant. This is a full- time position that includes a variable work agreement with overtime after 40 hours per week. This position may be required to work overtime, evening and/or weekend hours in even numbered years during the biennial budget process. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school supplemented by 6 college credits in beginning accounting and two years of financial records maintenance experience which includes such duties as controlling accounts payable/receivable; preparing financial reports for internal management use; and reconciling complex accounts; OR two years of experience as an Accounting Assistant III in Nevada State service which includes 6 college credits in beginning accounting; OR one year as an Accounting Assistant IV in Nevada State service which includes 6 college credits in beginning accounting; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above which must have included 6 college credits in beginning accounting.

    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
