Mental Health Technicians supplement the work of mental health professionals, health specialists, and nursing staff in providing direct client care for clients in a mental health facility.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation. The Division of Child and Family Services is recruiting for a Mental Health Technician 1 to underfill a Mental Health Technician 3 at Desert Willow Treatment Center (DWTC) located in Las Vegas. DWTC is a secure 20 bed psychiatric hospital accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations that provides mental health treatment to children ages 12 to 17. Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation. Mental Health Technicians 1 work under immediate and direct supervision. Incumbents will work with a team of psychiatric nurses, clinicians, and other mental health professionals at Desert Willow Treatment Center to provide direct patient care to youth with severe emotional disturbances (SED). Mental Health Technicians instruct, assist and oversee patients in their daily living skills, implement social and therapeutic interventions with patients, and facilitate or co-facilitate individual or group basic skills training sessions under direct supervision of mental health professionals.
Mental Health Technicians monitor patients to promptly identify and prevent self-harm activities and conduct suicide prevention watches by checking on clients at specified intervals. Mental Health Technicians participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings and make recommendations on patients' mental health care. Mental Health Technicians may transport patients to and from appointments, using state vehicles, if they possess a valid driver's license. Mental Health Technicians collect and maintain data, client files, and complete incident/accident reports and enter information into a database. Shifts include days, evenings, and weekends to support the 7 days per week, 24-hour staffing requirements. Applicants must be available to work any shift.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of experience involving public contact which may have included providing care or guidance for children, elders or others; volunteer work in providing respite to caregivers; or leading youth groups; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. |

CPR certification is required within six months of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. |

First aid certification is required within six months of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. |

In accordance with NAC 284.437, this series may be used to underfill Mental Health Professional positions when recruitment efforts for clinical positions in rural communities have been unsuccessful. |

A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment. |

Working evenings, weekends, and/or holidays is required. |

Applicants must successfully complete a pre-employment physical and be free of active tuberculosis. |

A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant at the cost of the applicant. |
