The Position
Administrative Assistants perform a broad variety of clerical, secretarial and administrative support duties in an assigned agency, program or other work unit within State government and the Nevada System of Higher Education.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
This position serves as the Southern Nevada Admissions Specialist for the Battle Born Youth ChalleNGe Academy. This region includes Las Vegas and outlying areas. The Battle Born Youth ChalleNGe Academy provides a non-traditional education through a quasi-military accredited learning environment. The target population are high school dropouts, and students that are credit deficient and not on track to graduate with their cohort. Primary responsibilities are to recruit and screen Cadet and Mentor applicants. This involves the development and distribution of marketing materials, building relationships with stakeholders, coordinating and conducting program presentations across the region, as well as reporting of outreach initiatives to the Lead Admissions Specialist. This position will work closely with members of the military, state and local agencies, and civic organizations. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of progressively responsible relevant work experience which included experience in one or more of the following areas: maintenance of complex records and files; public/customer relations including explaining detailed policies, regulations and requirements; preparation and processing of financial and statistical documents such as payroll, travel, claims and budgeting forms; and assisting staff and management with projects and activities; OR one year of experience as an Administrative Assistant II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Notes
    This position has a 25% travel requirement.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    This position requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
    This position requires supervising and working closely with teens ages 16 to 19 who are at-risk.
