The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

Under administrative direction, Chief Insurance Examiners plan, organize, direct and review new insurance products and programs to ensure that policies, rules, forms, business practices and operations comply with State laws and regulations, agency policies and procedures, and accepted industry standards. Incumbents function as managers who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinate supervisors; develop policies and procedures; and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives.
The Department of Business and Industry, Division of Insurance-Corporate and Finance Section, in Carson City, is recruiting for a Chief Insurance Examiner. The position has the chief financial oversight for all domestic, foreign, and alien insurance carriers selling products to Nevada consumers and any other risk bearing entity that the Division regulates in Title 57. Oversight includes supervision of at least 17 analysts who perform Licensing and financial solvency reviews at applications and then thereafter on a quarterly and an annual basis. The incumbent must be able to work with contract financial examiners who perform on-site financial examinations using the National Association of Insurance Commissioner's Financial (NAIC) Handbook requirements. Must also be familiar with NAIC Accreditation process as the Chief is responsible for maintaining NAIC accreditation. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, business administration, finance or related field, and four years of supervisory and/or management level experience which involved 1) the audit or examination of insurance companies and their operations; 2) the examination and/or analysis of insurance companies' products and programs that required the application of statutes, regulations and rules to determine the solvency and tax structure of insurance companies; or 3) determination of the appropriateness and soundness of insurance companies' products and programs; OR two years of experience as an Insurance Examiner II or Insurance Actuarial Analyst II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Additional Position Criteria
This position requires current certification as a Certified Financial Examiner (CFE), Associate Financial Examiner (AFE), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), or professional designations of PIR or SPIR at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
