Public Information Officers manage the public relations and information program for an agency on a statewide basis; write media releases, newsletters, and informational brochures; produce audiovisual presentations and take photographs.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position is located within the Department of Transportation's (NDOT) Communications Division in Carson City, with most of the work performed for the Environmental and Stormwater divisions. Incumbent will coordinate statewide community outreach and speaking engagements; oversee NDOT's involvement in special events; answer transportation questions and provide info to the public; produce videos, write scripts, take photographs, and assist with news releases, social media and the department newsletter; and content management and administration of the department's public-facing website. This position requires speaking to the public and governmental entities. Preference may be given to applicants with a relevant degree. Women and under-represented groups are encouraged to apply. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in journalism, English, public or community relations, communications or closely related field and two years of professional experience in public relations or public information including writing media releases and newsletters, preparing speeches and multimedia presentations; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

A valid drivers license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. |
|
This position may be required to work a flexible schedule to possibly include some weekends and travel on a state airplane. |
|
This position requires in-state travel up to 30% of the time. |
